This one is built from two oval rings that pass over each other, with real gaps between them, so the ceiling shows through and the fixture keeps a shadow line of its own. In black the gold inner face catches the light; in white it disappears into the plaster until you switch it on.

No. This is a surface-mounted fixture: the base plate screws to a standard ceiling outlet and the light sits flush on top. No recess and no false ceiling needed.
